1 cup tomato juice
3/4 cup Quaker Oats, uncooked (Mom would have used quick.)
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup, chopped onion (or more)
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 ground beef

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients except ground beef; mix well. Add ground beef; mix lightly but thoroughly. Press into 8 x 4 inch loaf pan. Bake 1 hour or til done. Let stand 5 minutes before slicing.

Mom would add American cheese slices in the middle. The best way to mix this is with your hands. Clara liked to do this when she was young; I loved this since the meat feels extremely cold.
