This recipe for Sopapillas (or Fried Bread), by Christina Rubio, is from The 2009 Zens Family Favorites,

2 c. flour 1½ tsp. baking powder ½ tsp. salt 2 tsp. sugar 2 tbsp. crisco ¾ c. warm water
In large bowl, mix dry ingredients. Use fingers to work in shortening until crumbly. Heat the water in microwave (15 sec.), and stir in. Knead in to dough. Let sit for 20 mins. Roll out on a floured board to ⅛ inch thick. Cut into 3 inch squares. Deep fat fry until golden brown. ENJOY!!!!!
