2 medium onions
2 T. butter
1-2 T. Hungarian Paprika or 1/4 tsp regular paprika
1 tsp vinegar
1 pound stewing beef cut in small pieces
1 T. salt
1/4 tsp marjoram
1 tsp caraway seeds
1-1/2 quarts water
2-3 T. flour
6 medium potatoes - dices

Directions:
Directions:
Slice onions in thin rings and saute in melted butter until slightly yellow. Add paprika, beef and other spices and fry gently until beef is browned. Add 2 cups water and simmer for 1 hour. Make a paste of flour with a little water and add to meat, along with the potatoes and remaining water. Cook until potatoes are soft.

For more intensive color, fry 1/2 tsp. paprika in oil, add 2 T. water and 1 T. tomato puree - bring to boil and add to soup. Should be made a day ahead. I cooked slowly for 8 hours.
