Preheat oven to 425°

Lightly grease a cookie sheet.

COMBINE IN MIXING BOWL:

2 c. flour
2 tbsp. baking powder
3 tbsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt

CUT IN UNTIL THE SIZE OF PEAS:

1/2 c. shortening or margarine

IN A SEPARATE BOWL COMBINE;

1/2 c. milk
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

ADD THE WET INGREDIENTS TO THE DRY INGREDIENTS WITH A FORK ALONG WITH 1/2 CUP CHOCOLATE CHIPS. STIR IN A CIRCLE JUST UNTIL IT FORMS A DOUGH.
TURN OUT ONTO A LIGHTLY FLOURED SURFACE AND KNEAD 5 TIMES.
SHAPE DOUGH INTO A ROUND FORM AND ROLL WITH A ROLLING PIN UNTIL ABOUT 7in. DIAMETER.
CUT INTO 4 WEDGES.
PLACE SCONES 1in. APART ON BAKING SHEET.
PIERCE TOPS WITH A FORK.

BAKE 18 TO 20 MIN. SERVE WARM.
