3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/3 c. molasses

Sift and add:
2 1/3 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp salt

Mix well. Shape into 1" balls, dip tops in sugar. Bake on ungreased baking sheet in 350 degree oven for 12-15"
