2 c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. butter
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt


Cream Cheese Spread:

1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 pkg. (8 oz.) cream cheese, softened
Toppings (sliced fresh fruit, chocolate chips, pecans or jam)

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 375º. Mix sugar, shortening, butter, vanilla, and egg in a large bowl. Stir in flour, baking powder and salt. Roll half the dough at a time 1/4 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut in 3 inch rounds. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until light brown. Cool completely. In a small bowl, mix all ingredients for Cream Cheese Spread together until smooth. Frost each cookie with 2 tsp. Cream Cheese Spread and arrange fruit on top.
