Thunder Cake Recipe

1 cup butter
1-3/4 cups sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 egg yolks
1 cup cold water
1/3 cup pureed tomatoes
2-1/2 cups cake flour
1/2 cup baking cocoa
1-1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
3 egg whites

Cream together, adding one ingredient at a time:
cups sugar
egg yolks
cold water
pureed tomatoes

Sift together: cups cake flour, baking cocoa, baking soda, salt
Mix dry ingredients into the batter.

Beat 3 egg whites until stiff but not dry and fold gently into batter.

Bake cake in a 9" X 13" cake pan that has been buttered and floured
at 350 F. for 35-40 minutes, or until done.

Frost cake with your favorite chocolate icing, and top with fresh
strawberries. (And READ THE BOOK! It's excellent, like the cake!)
