2 qts water
2 qts vinegar
6 c sugar
piece of alum size of thumb
1/2 pkg mixed spices

Directions:
Directions:
Boil all together till spices have seasoned vinegar. Wash pickles and soak 24 hours in salt brine. wash again and dry with cloth. Drop pickles in boiling vinegar. Let stand in this for 5 minutes but do not boil. Pack in sterilized jars. Set vinegar back on stove and bring to boil, pour over pickles packed in jar and seal. Add dill if you want; have made with or without; both good
