1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
grated rind of 1 lemon
1-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
a dash of salt
1/2 cup milk.
1/2 cup - 1 cup nuts (if desired)

glaze:
1/2 cup sugar
the juice of 1 lemon

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together: butter,sugar
Beat in: eggs, grated rind of 1 lemon
Sift together flour, baking powder, a dash of salt
Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
Stir in 1/2 cup - 1 cup nuts (if desired)

Turn batter into a greased loaf pan and bake at 350 F. for 45 minutes until a tester comes out clean.

Immediately after removing the cake from the oven, spoon over it this glaze:

In a saucepan, combine: sugar, the juice of 1 lemon
Heat until sugar is dissolved, then pour it over the hot cake (which is still in the pan!) Let the cake stand a few minutes to absorb the glaze, the remove the cake from the pan and allow to cool on a rack.
