1 cup raisins or currants
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup sugar
1 slightly beaten egg
1-3/4 cups flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 cup chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Macerate together: raisins or currants in boiling water
Stir in vegetable oil
Cool mixture to lukewarm, then stir in sugar, slightly beaten egg
Sift together flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves
Beat dry ingredients into wet ingredients.
Stir in chopped nuts
Bake in a greased jelly roll (half-sheet) pan (11-1/2" X 17-1/2" X 3/4") at 375 F. for 12 minutes.

FROSTING
Mix together:
powdered sugar
2/3 stick softened butter
1 tsp. vanilla
enough milk to make icing creamy
Frost the bars with this icing.
