Ingredients:
Ingredients:
½ Cup of Sugar
2¼ Cup of Sifter flour
½ Cup of shortening
2½ Tsp. Baking Soda
1 Tsp. Vanilla
1 Tsp. Salt
2 Eggs
1 Cup & 2 Tbs. of Milk

Chocolate Icing/Syrup: 3 cups sugar, 3 cups water, 3 heaping tablespoons cocoa, and 1 tsp. vanilla flavoring

Directions:
Directions:
Stir shortening to soften. Gradually add sugar and cream. Thoroughly mix (12 to 15 minutes at medium high speed on mixer); add vanilla and eggs (1) at a time beating well after each. Sift flour with baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating well after each addition. Bake in 2 wax paper lined 9 x 1 ½ round pan in moderate oven 375 for about 23 minutes.
Icing: Mix all ingredients except vanilla, bring to a boil, reduce heat. Chocolate is quick to boil over so watch carefully and do not allow to boil too hard. To test if chocolate is ready, place a small amount on a saucer and put in freezer. (Do not leave in long enough to get cold, just no longer hot.) Take saucer out of freezer and tilt, if chocolate looks as though it is going to run but doesn't, it is done. If chocolate runs freely on the saucer, cook longer. Add vanilla when syrup is done. Spoon onto cake and spread out with knife. Icing/Syrup will soak into cake.
