5 small onions, thinly sliced
2-14oz cans low sodium beef froth
2-10oz cans beef consommé
1 pkt. Lipton onion soup mix
8 slices French bread, about 1 inch thick
1 cup shredded Gruyere cheese (I've also used provolone or mozzarella instead.).

Directions:
Directions:
Combine onions, broth, consommé, and soup mix in a slow cooker. Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours. Ladle soup into serving bowls. Top with a slice of French bread. layer cheese over top of bread slice. Put soup bowls under broiler until cheese is melted. Alternatively, place bread slices on a baking sheet and top with cheese, broil until cheese has melted and set on top of soup bowls before serving.
