2 cups of raisins
1 cup water
1 tsp baking soda
2 cups sugar
1 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
3 eggs
4 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
¼ tsp nutmeg
1 cup chopped nuts or dates

Directions:
Directions:
Add water and raisins together in pot and boil for 5 minutes. Cool and stir in baking soda. Cream shortening and sugar, add vanilla, beaten eggs and cooled raisins, sifted flour and other dry ingredients. Drop by spoonful on cookie sheet and bake at 350ºF for about 9 minutes.
