3 c fresh peaches
1 c plus 3 T sugar
1/4 t almond extract
1 T lemon juice
1 t grated lemon peel
1 1/2 c sifted flour
3 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1/3 c sortening
1/2 c milk
1 well beaten egg

Directions:
Directions:
Arrange peaches in greased 8 x 8 x 2" pan. Sprinkle with mixture of 1 c sugar, almond extract, lemon juice & lemon peel. Heat in oven while preparing cake.
Sift dry ingredients (with 1 T sugar) together; cut in shortening until mixture is like coarse crumbs. Add milk and eggs at once. Stir until flour is just mointened. Spread dough over hot peaches. Sprinkle with 2 T sugar. Bake 400 degrees. (Time not specified)
