1 1/2 cup shortening (crisco)
2 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
4 cups flour
4 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp ginger, ground
1 1/2 tsp cloves,ground
3/4 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º.
In large bowl blend with mixer the shortening & sugar; add molasses & eggs and beat well.
Add dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and salt.
Cover with plastic wrap and chill in refrigerator for 1-2 hours; roll dough into walnut-size balls and roll in dish of extra granulated sugar.
Put on ungreased cookies sheet and bake at 350º for 8-10 minutes. Cool on wire racks.
