1/4 c. Crisco
6 level TBsp.ap flour
1 cup milk
1 cup
water
1-1/2 c. canned stewed tomatoes
1 tsp salt
pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
In a lg skillet or pot, melt Crisco on high heat; add flour,stirring constantly until light brown. Remove from heat. Let cool. Mix together the milk and water. Add to flour mixture and stir until well blended. Add tomatoes. Put back on heat and stir until thickened. Add salt and pepper.

During the depression when food was scarce, this was an old standby, served on biscuits. Some of those necessities turned out to be our favorite foods. This is great served with meatloaf.
