2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 cup margarine or butter, softened
1 cup chopped nuts
1 to 2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup sour cream
1 tsp sour cream
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 egg
2 cups peeled, finely chopped apples
Whipped cream for topping, or ice cream, if desired.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Lightly spoon flour into measuring cup, level off. In a large bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and margarine; beat at low speed until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Press 2 1/2 cups crumb mixture into bottom of ungreased 9x13x2 inch baking pan. To remaining mixture, add cinnamon, baking soda, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg; mix well. Stir in apples. Spoon evenly over base. Bake 30 to 40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut into squares. Serve with whipped cream or topping or ice cream, if desired.
