Step 1- Mix well 2 cups sugar and 2 cups flour
Step 2- Bring to a boil 1/4 cup shortening or oil, 1 cup water, 1 stick margarine and 3 1/2 tbsp. of cocoa. Pour this mixture (hot) over sugar and flour in step 1 and blend well. (I use mixer)
Step 3- Add: 1/2 cup buttermilk, 1/2 tsp. salt, 2 unbeaten eggs, 1 tsp. soda and1 tsp. vanilla. Mix all together well and pour into a 11 x 16 x 2 pan. Batter will be thin. Bake at 400º (about 20 minutes).

Then make frosting...
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 stick margarine
3 1/2 tbsp. cocoa
1 cup chopped pecans
1 box powdered sugar
Boil first three ingredients until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar and nuts. Frost cake while it is hot.
