4 1/2 to 5 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
2 pkg. dry yeast
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup butter
3 eggs at room temperature
1/2 cup chopped mixed fruit (I use more)
1/2 cup seedless raisins
1/2 cup slivered almonds
1tbsp. anise seed
1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water (for glaze)

In a large bowl mix 4 1/2 cup flour, sugar salt and yeast. In a sauce pan combine milk, water and butter, heat over low heat. Gradually add to the dry mixture. Beat for 2 minutes at medium speed. Add 3 eggs, fruit and anise seed. Add flour as needed to make soft dough. Transfer onto floured board. Knead for 5 minutes. Let rise in large bowl. Cut in 1/2 and transfer to loaf pans and let rise. Brush with egg wash and bake at 350º for 30 to 45 minutes.
