2 1/2 c flour
1 1/2 c packed brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2/3 c butter, shortening
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 beaten eggs
1 1/3 c butter milk or sour milk
1/2 c chopped nuts

Directions:

Grease 13 x 9 x 2 pan
Combine flour sugar and salt- cut in butter till course crumbs- set aside 1/2 c.
Stir in remaining dry ingredients.
In a separate bowl combine eggs and milk, add to dry mixture- mix well spoon into pan. Sprinkle dry mix and nuts on top.
Bake 350 35-50 minutes.

To make sour milk: Four each cup of sour milk needed place 1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar in a glass add milk to equal 1 cup of total liquid. Let stand 5 minutes.

This breakfast cake just always turns out...looks a little tough to make but once you do it you'll have it down. I never have buttermilk in the house and always use sour milk made with vinegar.
