Ingredients:
8 slices white bread, toasted dry in oven
2 sticks butter
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 tsp. vanilla
4 cups milk
raisins
nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Break toasted bread into bite size pieces. Melt butter in a pan on the stove. Put the bread in with the butter and stir, coating all the bread. Stir and simmer slowly until all the butter has been soaked into the bread. Beat the eggs in a large bowl. Add the milk and vanilla and blend. Pour the buttered bread into a baking dish and pour the milk over top. Mash the bread down into the milk using a fork, until bread soaks up some of the milk. Sprinkle the raisins and nutmeg over top, push down a few times, then bake at 400 until firm. Nuts may be used instead of raisins. Serve warm or cold.
