2 cups packed brown sugar
1 cup margarine
3 eggs
1/2 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp cinnamon (opt)

Date Filling:

2 cups dates
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
nuts (opt)

Mix cookie ingredients in order given. Drop cookie dough the size of a walnut onto a greased cookie sheet. Mix ingredients for date filling in small saucepan. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Put a dab of dates (or can use jelly or jam) on top of cookies on cookie sheet. On top of the dab of date, put a smaller dab of cookie dough. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Makes 70 good sized cookies.
