1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
1/4 cup cocoa
1 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
2/3 cup milk
1/2 cup boiling water
1 1/2 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening and sugar together. Add egg and cocoa, then add vanilla, salt and milk. Add soda to boiling water and then add to mixture. Add flour. Beat vigorously, just long enough to blend all the ingredients (about 1 minute). Pour into a 9x13" pan and bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
