1 pkg raisins
2 c sugar
1 scant c lard
3 c boiling water
2 t baking soda
1 t vanilla
4 c flour
1 t nutmeg
1 t cinnamon
1 t allspice
1 t cloves
1 t salt
2 T cocoa
(nuts, gumdrops, citrus optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Boil together raisins, sugar and lard for 15 min. Cool. Add soda dissolved in 1/4 c warm water and vanilla. Stir well and add flour and spices. Add more flour if necessary to make a stiff batter.

Bake 1 hr. in slow oven.
