1 1/2 lb. ground beef
3 med. chopped onions
1 1/2 minced garlic cloves
1 minced green pepper
3 T. cooking oil
1 1/2 t. salt
1/2 t. pepper
1 1/2 T. chili powder
1/2 t. sugar
1 1 lb. 14 oz. can tomatoes
1 1 lb. can kidney beans (rinsed)

Cook onions, garlic, and green pepper in oil about 5 min. Remove onions, garlic, green pepper and set aside. Add meat and stir over low heat until well browned. Add salt, pepper, and chili powder. Return onions, garlic, and green pepper. Add tomatoes, sugar, and kidney beans. Cover and simmer gently about 30 min.
