1 c butter or margarine
1 c sugar
3 egg yolks
1 c sour cream
grated rind of 1 orange
3 c sifted cake flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
3 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Orange syrup:
juice of 2 oranges
3/4 c sugar
juice of 1 lemon
dash of salt

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and lightly flour a 9" tube pan
In a bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, sour cream, and orange rind. Beat for 5 minutes or until thoroughly blended. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Beat flour mixture into egg mixture. Fold in egg whites. Pour into tube pan. Bake for 1 hour.
Remove cake from oven and let stand 10 minutes. With a spatula, loosen cake from sides of pan and turn out onto rack to cool.
Combine the orange syrup ingredients in a sauce pan and boil gently for 4 minutes. Pour hot syrup over top of cake.
