4 qts. sm. onions
3 pts. boiling water
1 c. salt
3 pts. cold water
1/4 c. pickling spice
2 c. sugar
2 qts. white vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Cover onions with boiling water, let stand 5 minutes. Drain. Cover with cold water and peel. Dissolve salt in cold water listed, add onions and let stand 12 to 24 hours. Drain, rinse with cold water and drain. Tie spices in cheesecloth, add to sugar and vinegar and heat to a boil. Remove spices, add onions, heat back to boiling. Pack onions in jars and fill with vinegar mixture. Seal in hot water bath.
