3 c All-purpose flour
1 c granulated sugar
4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
3/4 c shortening
1 1/2 c coarsely chopped walnuts
1 egg, beaten
1 1/2 c milk
1 tsp vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.
Sift flour with sugar, baking powder, and salt into mixing bowl. Stir in 1 1/4 cup walnuts. Add egg, milk, and vanilla. Mix just until ingredients are blended. Turn into pan. Sprinkle remaining walnuts on top.
Bake for 60 to 70 minutes. Let stand in pan for 10 minutes. Turn out onto wire rack to cool.
