1 c raisins,2 c. water,1 stick margarine, 1 3/4 c. flour, 1 c. sugar, 1 tsp. salt, 1 tsp.soda, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1 tsp. nutmeg, 1/2 tsp. allspice, 1/2 tsp. cloves, 1 egg(slightly beaten), 3 T. margarine, 3 T. brown sugar, 3T. cream,1 tsp. vanilla, powdered sugar.

Boil together raisins and water for 10 minutes. Add margarine. Cool. Grease an 8 x12" pan. Sift together flour, sugar, salt, soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves. Add liquid mixture to dry ingredients. Stir. Add egg and mix gently. Pour into pan. Bake at 350º for 30-40 min. Cool cake. Butterscotch Icing: Melt margarine, add brown sugar and cream. Add vanilla. Add enough powdered sugar to get good consistency. Spread on cake. Alternate topping: sprinkle cake with powdered sugar.

This recipe was from Jean Northouse, a neighbor next door to us at the cottage on Silver Lake in Rockford, MI. Her daughter and grandchildren live there now. I make it for special occasions.
