1 lb. dates, sliced
1 1/2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 c. water
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. Crisco
1 T. sour milk
1 tsp. baking soda
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Filling:
Cook dates with 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water
and let cool.

Cookie Dough: cream the following:
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
1 c. Crisco

Add 1 T. sour milk and 1 tsp. baking soda to mixture.

Stir in:
2 eggs
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla

Chill dough. Roll out into 2 rectangles. Spread with date filling. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup chopped pecans. Roll from long side. Wrap in waxed paper and chill.
Slice 1/4 inch thick and bake on greased cookie sheet at 400 degrees about 8 minutes.
