2 whole vanilla beans
1 quart cheap vodka

Using a very sharp knife, split the bean pods down the middle to expose the skin and beans. In a large glass jar, pour the entire bottle of the (cheapest) vodka and drop in the sliced pods with the beans. Secure a lid on top and store in a dark place for 3 months. Write the date on a piece of paper and tape to the front. This is the best vanilla you can buy and it is much cheaper than that in the store. It keeps for at least one year.
