"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

4 medium potatoes
1 Tbsp butter
2 Tbsp olive oil
1 clove garlic

1 raw egg
2 cups bread crumbs

Directions:
Boil and mash potatoes with 1 Tbsp butter. Put mashed potatoes aside. In a frying pan, fry up: olive oil, garlic, onion, bacon, cabbage, carrot, water, and curry powder. Fry all ingredients together until cooked. (Cabbage will be limp, only takes about 8 minutes max.) Transfer into large bowl with mashed potatoes and add egg and bread crumbs. Mix together and form into patties. Fry patties in frying pan with small amount of olive oil until browned. Serve warm with chutney. I stole this recipe from my friend Julie and love it! It's especially good with a tangy chutney like rhubarb or mango chutney! Very easy to make and my favorite part is that it's a "100 mile" recipe meaning that most of the ingredients can be bought locally and IN THE WINTER!
