Ingredients:
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. evaporated milk
2 Tbsp. corn syrup
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. imitation maple flavor can be substituted for vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, salt, milk, and corn syrup. Bring to a boil over moderate heat, stirring constantly. Reduce heat and cook without stirring until a small amount will form a soft ball in cold water (236º F.) Remove from the heat, add butter and flavor and set saucepan in pan of cold water to cool in lukewarm (110º F). Beat until the mixture thickens and loses its gloss. Pour into a small buttered pan and cool, then cut into squares. You may add chopped walnuts to top before cutting into squares. This will make 36 squares weighing about 1 1/4 pounds.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Dad (Ellis) would wait for everyone to go to bed and then start making "his" candy. The trouble was, we had a small house so we could smell it cooking and would run downstairs to lick the pan. He was foiled again!
