Have eggs and butter at room temperature. Combine all ingredients on slow speed until mixed together then increase speed and beat for 10 minutes.
Line square 20cm tin with baking paper ensuring paper comes up above sides of cake tin. Grease tin well. Bake in moderate oven for approximately 1 hour or until skewer comes out clean. Stand for 5 minutes before turning out on cooling rack.
