Ingredients: Crust: 2 cups flour 1 t. salt 2/3 c. chilled shortening 2 T. chilled butter 1 egg 4 T. water
Pie filling: 6-7 apples, cored and sliced 1/2-2/3 c. br. sugar 1/8 t. salt 3 T. flour 1 t. cinnamon 1/8 t. gr. nutmeg dash of gr. ginger dash of gr.cloves 1-1/2 T butter

Directions:Preheat Oven to 450º.
Crust: Sift together flour and salt. Blend together chilled shortening and butter. Cut half of the shortening/butter into flour with a pastry cutter or fingers. Add one egg and cut remaining shortening into mixture. Sprinkle dough with water; blend lightly into dough. Divide in half and roll out crust. Place one crust in bottom of 9" pie pan and prick bottom.
Filling: Combine sugar, salt, flour cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves. Soft mixture over apples and combine through. Dot with 1-1/2 T butter.
Cover pie with pricked upper crust. Brush with milk and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.
Bake at 450º oven for ten minutes; reduce heat to 350º and bake until filling is bubbly and crust is golden (35-45 minutes).
