6 Tbsp butter or shortening
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup Grandma's Molasses*
1 egg
2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp ginger
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp nutmeg
sugar for dipping

Directions:
Directions:
Beat butter with sugar until light. Mix in molasses and egg. Sift dry ingredients and add to wet mixture. Mix well. Chill in freezer for one hour or refrigerator for two hours. Heat oven to 350F. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and dip in sugar. Bake on greased baking sheet 10-12 minutes. Cool. Makes 3 dozen.
