4 cans beef consommé (only Campbell's for best flavour)
3 cans water
4 cups onions, sliced thinly and separated into rings or chopped coarsely
2 tbsp butter or margarine
2 1/2 tbsp brown sugar
3/4 cup water
1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch
Pinch of thyme
1/2 tsp pepper

Directions:
Directions:
Fry onions and butter until onions are soft in heated fry pan.
Combine brown sugar, cornstarch and water and stir to mix. Add to onions and cook until thickened. Add onions to consommé and water in saucepan and simmer 20 minutes. Soup is now ready to go into onion soup bowls with french bread or croutons and topped with mozzarella cheese.
