1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 c. molasses (prefer Johnny Fair Waffle Syrup)
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 egg
2 1/2 c. flour
1 c. hot water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten egg and molasses, then dry ingredients which have been sifted together. Add hot water last and beat until smooth. Bake in a greased shallow 9" x 12" pan for 35 min. at 350º.

This recipe is a "Hollenshead Family Classic" from the pages of Jeane's family cookbook, "Favorite Recipes of the Hollensheads". She submitted this recipe in her sister's memory.
