¾ C. shortening 1 t. vanilla
1 C. brown sugar (packed) 3 C. oats (raw)
½ C. granulated sugar 1 C. flour
1 egg 1 t. salt
¼ C. water ½ t. soda

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat together shortening, sugars, egg, water and vanilla until creamy. Add remaining ingredients, mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes. For variety add chopped nuts, raisins, chocolate chips or coconut. Makes about 5 dozen.
