2 cups pitted dates
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 T. flour

Combine above ingredients and add 1 cup of hot water. Simmer for 10 minutes or until thickened.

Stir in 1 tsp. vanilla.

1 cup sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
2 cups rolled oats

Add 3/4 cups melted butter or margarine gradually, while stirring. Spread 1/2 of oatmeal mixture in a greased or oiled pan.(approximately 12x8)

Cover with date mixture. Sprinkle with remaining oatmeal mixture - pat with a spoon.

Bake oven at 375º for 20 minutes.

Cool in pan. Cut into 2 in. squares.
