3 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. all purpose flour
3 cups milk, preheated
Salt and pepper
12 oz. three color macaroni twists
1 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
1 can (28 oz) whole peeled plum tomatoes, drained and coarsely cut up
1/2 cups fully cooked smoked ham, chopped
1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese

Melt the butter in a saucepan; stir in the flour until smooth; cook, stirring about 3 minutes. Gradually whisk in the milk until boiling, cook, stirring, until thick and smooth, about 10 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Cook the macaroni in plenty of boiling salted water until al dente, or firm to the bite; about 10 minutes, drain.

Combine the macaroni with the white sauce, half the mozzarella, tomatoes, ham and basil. Pour into a buttered 9x13 baking dish. Sprinkle with the remaining mozzarella and the Parmesan.

Bake in a preheated 350 oven until top is browned and bubbly, about 45 minutes.
