"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350. Grease 9x13 baking pan (sometimes I use a larger pan for a thinner bar). In large bowl, mix together the oats, brown sugar, wheat germ, cinnamon, flour, raisins and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in honey, egg, oil and vanilla. Mix well using your hands. Pat mixture into pan. Bake 30-35 minutes or until the bars begin to turn golden at the edges. Cool for 5 min and cut into bars while still warm.
