Southern Citrus Salad Recipe

1/3 c. sugar
1 tsp. finely chopped onion
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. dry mustard
3 T. vinegar
1/2 c. oil
2 tsp. poppy seed


3 c. torn leaf lettuce
3 c. torn iceberg lettuce
2 grapefruit, peeled, sectioned
3 oranges, peeled, sectioned
1 avocado, peeled, sliced
1/4 c. slivered almonds, toasted

In blender container or food processor bowl with metal blade, combine sugar, onion, salt, dry mustard and vinegar. Cover; blend until well mixed. With machine running, add oil in a slow, steady stream, blending until thick and smooth. Add poppy seed; blend a few seconds to mix. Refrigerate to blend flavors.

In large serving bowl, toss leaf and iceberg lettuce. Arrange grapefruits, oranges, avocado and almonds over greens. Serve with dressing.
