1 ½ c. flour
½ tsp. salt
¼ c. sugar
½ tsp. baking soda
½ tsp. cinnamon
½ c. dates, chopped
¾ c. sour milk
¼ c. molasses
4-5 tbsp. nuts, chopped
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Mix and sift the dry ingredients. Add the milk and nuts. Mix in dates, molasses, and vanilla. Steam 2 hrs. in a mold.

This is the traditional (but optional) Thanksgiving carrier for hard sauce, recipe below:

Ingredients:
1/2 c. soft butter
1 1/2 c. sifted confectioners sugar
1 tsp. vanilla extract OR 2 tbsp. rum or brandy

Preparation:
Cream butter with confectioners sugar until light and fluffy.
