2 ¼ lb ground lean beef (pork or chicken may be substituted or omitted meat if vegetarian)
2 - 14.5oz cans diced tomatoes
2 – 8oz cans tomato sauce
6 cubes beef bouillon (vegetable may be substituted – equiv. in powdered form)
3 medium carrots, diced or shredded
2 onions, chopped
½ cup white vinegar
½ cup white or brown sugar
2 ¼ tsp. salt
¾ tsp. ground black pepper
3 qts. water – divided
5 cloves garlic, minced
2 heads green cabbage, cord and cut into wedges
2 cups cooked rice

Crumble ground beef into a large pot and brown. When cooked drain fat from meat and return to pot. Add the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beef bouillon, carrots, onions, vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. Pour in 2 quarts (2 L) water and bring to boil. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes over low heat.

Pour in remaining water and return to slow boil. Add garlic and cabbage and simmer for an additional 25 minutes or until cabbage is tender. Stir in cooked rice and serve.
