Directions:
Select a whole grain oatmeal (not instant oatmeal) such as Quaker Oats Old Fashioned.

Note: Read instructions on label if using a different brand.

For every two servings:
Warm 3 cups of skim milk in a pot on the stove until it starts to bubble a little, then lower heat a little and stir in 1 ˝ cups of dry oatmeal. As the milk is warming, choose your favorite fresh fruit to be added later. If you are using frozen fruit (eg blueberries) defrost in a microwave. Wash any fruit such as berries, and cut up anything large like apples or bananas (use a butter knife and watch you fingers!) Cook the oatmeal about 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally.

If you want to add any dried fruit, like raisins or cranberries, do it while the oatmeal is cooking if you want them to soften and become more flavorful. After 5 minutes remove the oatmeal from the stove and let it cool a little. Next sprinkle lots of cinnamon on top and a little ground ginger, then mix these spices into the oatmeal. Now add lots of fruit and mix again…..the fruit and spices will make the oatmeal so flavorful you won’t need any other sweetener!

What are the best foods to combine with oatmeal? My favorites are: blueberries, kiwi, strawberries, apples,
bananas and cranberries, and you can add nuts, graham crackers and coconut too! What ever you like!
For some other ideas search for oatmeal toppings within recipes on the Quaker Oats internet website:
