"When I'm at a Chinese restaurant having a hard time with chopsticks, I always hope that there's a Chinese kid at an American restaurant somewhere who's struggling mightily with a fork."--Rick Budinich
This recipe for Kalua, by Jo-Ann Little, is from The DeBaise Family Cookbook,
one of the cookbooks created at FamilyCookbookProject.com. We help
families or individuals create heirloom cookbook treasures.
Blend 4 cups water with sugar. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Continue boiling very slowly for 20 minutes (set aside). Boil other 2 cups water & stir in Yuban coffee (set aside). Split vanilla bean lengthwise and add to sugar/water syrup. When cool pour into jug and add vodka. Let stand 2 weeks. Cover tightly.
