1 c. raisins,
1 c. shortening,
2 c. sugar,
3 eggs,
2 c. slightly sweetened applesauce,
3 c. flour,
2 tsp. soda,
1 tsp. cinnamon,
1/2 tsp. nutmeg,
1/2 tsp. allspice, 1/2 tsp. cloves,
1 cup nuts,
1/2 c. maraschino cherry halves. or glazed cherries,
1c. citron,
1 c. dates,

Directions:
Boil raisins until plump; drain and cool. Cream shortening, sugar. Add eggs. Add applesauce and stir. Sift together flour, soda and spices, add to creamed mixture. Add raisins and other fruit and nuts. Stir. Bake in an angel food cake pan. Bake 1 hour and 35 min. at 325º. Can be used right away or it can be frozen until needed.
