1 1/2 lb. beef stew meat, cut into 1 inch cubes
2 T. oil
4 c. water
1 large onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 T. lemon juice
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. paprika
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 bay leaf
1/8 tsp. allspice
6 carrots, cut into 3/4 inch chunks
4 potatoes, cut into 1 inch chunks
1/2 c. cold water
1/4 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Cook meat in hot oil until brown. Drain fat. Add 4 c. water, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, sugar, salt, paprika, pepper, bay leaf and allspice. Bring to boiling, reduce heat. Simmer covered for 2 hours. Add carrots and potatoes. Return to boiling. Simmer about 30 minutes. Discard bay leaf. Combine 1/2 c. cold water and flour. Stir into stew. Cook until thick. Season with salt and pepper.
