3/4 c. butter, softened
1 3/4 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 medium-sized seedless clementine or satsuma oranges
2 c. flour
3/4 c. cocoa powder
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 c. warm water
2 cups powdered sugar
2 TBSP. butter, softened
2 TBSP. orange puree
2 TBSP. milk

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2. Grease 3 9-inch round pans and dust with flour.
3. Puree oranges in a blender or food processor. Set aside.
4. Beat butter and sugar until well-blended.
5. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until fluffy.
6. Beat in 1/2 c. pureed oranges; save the rest for the frosting.
7. Beat in the cocoa, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.
8. Beat in the flour, alternating with the warm water, just until blended.
9. Divide the batter between the three pans, and bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out cleanly.
10. After ten minutes, invert the cake pans carefully on a wire rack and let cool completely.
11. For the frosting, mix the butter, orange puree, and milk, and add powdered sugar until it is thick but still spreadable.
12. Spread frosting between each layer and on the top and around the sides.

This decadent cake tastes like those "whack-and-unwrap" holiday chocolate oranges, except as a rich, moist cake.
